Privacy
This page covers this website and Beaver Compare. Beaver has its own privacy statement at beaver.mindigest.com/privacy.
In short
- This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other sites.
- Beaver Compare works on your Mac. Your files never leave it.
- Beaver Compare goes online only to check for updates, at most once a day, and you can turn that off.
1. Who we are
This website and Beaver Compare are made by Mindigest. You can reach us at support@mindigest.com.
2. This website
This website is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics or tracking, has no forms, and loads no scripts, fonts or images from other sites. It is hosted by Vercel, which processes every request (IP address, browser user agent, page address, referrer and time) to deliver and protect the site, and keeps server logs under its own privacy policy.
When you arrive on an English page and your browser’s first language is Chinese, a script on the page opens the Chinese version instead. If you then pick a language with the language link, your browser remembers that choice for the open tab (session storage) so that you are not sent back. Both happen in your browser; nothing is sent to us.
Links to the Mindigest store and its checkout (run by Creem), our Taobao store and the Beaver website take you to services with their own privacy policies.
3. Beaver Compare
What stays on your Mac
Beaver Compare reads and writes only the files and folders you open in it, on your Mac. Its settings, saved sessions and recent items stay on your Mac too. It has no account, no analytics, no telemetry and no crash reporting of its own.
The update check
Beaver Compare uses Sparkle to look for updates. At most once a day
it downloads a small file (appcast.xml) from our update
server, updates.mindigest.com. The request names the app and its
version; it contains none of your files and no account. Like every
request, it shows the server your IP address and the time. An update
is downloaded and installed only when you agree, and Beaver Compare
checks its signature first. To stop the automatic checks, turn off
“Automatically check for updates” in Beaver Compare’s Settings.
Finder and the command line
The Finder extension hands the paths you select to Beaver Compare on
your Mac; nothing is sent anywhere else. The bvc
command line tool is installed only when you choose Install Command
Line Tool… in Settings.
4. When you write to us
We use your email address and what you send only to answer you.
5. Your choices and rights
You can ask what we hold about you (usually only our emails), ask for a copy of it, ask us to correct or delete it, or ask how we use it, by writing to support@mindigest.com. Beaver Compare keeps its data on your Mac: deleting the app and its settings removes it.
6. Changes and language
When this page changes, we update it here and change the date at the top. It is also available in Chinese; if the two differ, the Chinese version prevails.
